Sacramento’s rainless summer, with average highs near 92 °F in July, sends Argentine ants indoors for water, and the first autumn rains in November set off subterranean termite swarms.
Sacramento Pest Control provides residential and commercial pest control in Sacramento and the nearby communities of Sacramento County and West Sacramento. A local technician treats Argentine ants, roof rats, subterranean and drywood termites, yellowjackets, cockroaches, spiders, ground squirrels, bed bugs and fleas. Phones are answered 24/7, and you approve the price before treatment starts.
Pest pressure in Sacramento follows the water. The summer is long and rainless, so Argentine ants trail indoors looking for a drip at a faucet or drain. The winter is wet, and the first autumn rain can set off subterranean termite swarms. In between, roof rats use the mature trees and river-bank vegetation as a highway to the attic.
Sacramento Pest Control is a call line for homes and businesses from Midtown and Land Park out to Natomas, Carmichael, Elk Grove and West Sacramento. You describe what you are seeing, a technician inspects, and the price is explained and approved before anything is applied. Not sure what you have? Start with general pest control, look at typical prices, read the Sacramento pest calendar or browse the neighborhoods we serve.

Most calls are scheduled the same day when a technician is available. You hear a realistic window on the phone instead of a promise that falls apart by noon.
The technician explains what was found, what treatment it needs and what it costs. Nothing goes on until you say yes to the number.
Each visit ends with a written service report: what was found, what was applied and where, and what to watch for before the next visit.
Every product is used the way its label directs. Before leaving, the technician goes over precautions for the people and animals in your household.
Treatment is planned around a rainless summer with highs near 92 F in July, a wet winter of about 18 inches, and the pests that follow each. A spring job and an October job are not the same job.
Call (855) 974-4733 for anything urgent, or use the form for a non-urgent quote. Say what you are seeing, where, and your ZIP.
The technician looks inside and out for the pest, its water source and its way in. You get a price to approve before any treatment.
Treatment goes where the pest lives and travels: bait at the trail, traps off the ground in the attic, sealed gaps at the eaves. Products are applied per label.
You get a written service report with findings, products and locations, plus any follow-up the technician recommends.
The pests that most often bring Sacramento homeowners to the phone are Argentine ants, roof rats, subterranean and drywood termites, yellowjackets, German cockroaches and spiders such as the western black widow. Ground squirrels and voles matter near levees and open grass. Which one you meet depends on the season and the age of the house.
UC Integrated Pest Management (UC IPM) calls the Argentine ant the most common outdoor ant in California. It is about 3 mm long, dark, and does not sting, and its workers can travel up to 100 feet from the nest to reach food, water and shelter inside a building. UC IPM also lists the roof rat as present in almost all California cities, nesting above ground in shrubs, trees and dense vegetation such as ivy.
Many of these pests leave early signs. Catching them while they are a trail, a sound or a few shed wings is usually simpler than waiting for a full colony. These are the signs that most often start a call:
Sacramento has a Mediterranean climate: hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters, with about 18 inches of rain in an average year, most of it from November to March. Ants and other pests look for water indoors when the ground is dry, and termites move when the first rains soak the soil.
Averages for 1991 to 2020 put the typical high near 87 F in June, 92 F in July and 91 F in August, with little or no rain from June through September. The first 100 F day usually arrives around early June. Cold ocean air drawn through the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, the Delta breeze, can cool evenings noticeably, but the yard stays dry.
Use the table as a rough guide. Timing shifts from year to year, and the technician will tell you what the calendar means for your house. The month-by-month pest calendar goes deeper.
| Season | Weather | What to watch |
|---|---|---|
| Winter (Dec to Feb) | Wet season, saturated clay soil, mild days | Rats staying in attics and wall voids; ground squirrels and voles near levees and open ground; vendors report rodents seeking shelter as weather cools |
| Spring (Mar to May) | Warming, with the rain tapering off | Queen yellowjackets starting new nests; ground squirrels active on open grass; subterranean termites may swarm in spring in the northern valley |
| Summer (Jun to Aug) | Rainless, highs around 87 to 92 F | Argentine ants trailing indoors for water, especially in August and September; drywood termites beginning to swarm in August; yellowjacket colonies growing |
| Fall (Sep to Nov) | Driest stretch, then the first rains | Yellowjackets scavenging at picnics and garbage; drywood swarms to November; subterranean swarms on calm, sunny days after the first rain |
House age tells you where to look. Downtown, Midtown, Curtis Park, Land Park and East Sacramento have homes from the early 1900s to the 1930s, often with raised floors and mature trees. Postwar tracts in Carmichael and Rosemont, and newer ones in Natomas and Elk Grove, bring different entry points.
The old core was built first. Alkali Flat dates from the 1850s and 1860s, Midtown holds Victorian mansions and Craftsman bungalows, and Curtis Park, Land Park and East Sacramento's Fab 40s fill out the 1920s and 1930s. Homes of that age often have raised floors, which is why a crawl-space pest inspection is a regular part of an older-home visit. Mature elms, oaks and ivy also give roof rats an easy route to the roofline.
Postwar neighborhoods such as Carmichael, Arden-Arcade, Rosemont and Citrus Heights grew from the late 1940s through the 1970s, and North Natomas and Elk Grove were built mostly after 1998. Those tract homes raise different questions about slab-home pest control. Near the American and Sacramento rivers, the American River Parkway runs 23 miles through the county, and the vegetation along it is good habitat for wildlife and rodents alike.
Use Verify a License on pestboard.ca.gov, the website of the Structural Pest Control Board. It leads to the Department of Consumer Affairs License Search, where you choose Structural Pest Control Board and search by name, business name or license number. The Board's Enforcement Unit at (800) 737-8188 can also confirm that a company is registered.
California licenses structural pest work in three branches: Branch 1 is fumigation, Branch 2 is general pest, and Branch 3 is termite work. A license is limited to the branch or branches the person qualified for by exam, so a company that treats ants is not automatically cleared to fumigate a house.
When you call Sacramento Pest Control, a local technician comes out, and you are welcome to ask for the license number of the company doing the work. The About page explains how that works, and the termite inspection report guide shows what to expect on paper.
No. The Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District is a public agency whose authorized work is mosquito and vector control, with yellow-jacket control running July through September. Sacramento Pest Control is a separate private call line that arranges service for homes and businesses. We are not the district and are not affiliated with it.
The district began in 1946 as the Sacramento County-Yolo County Mosquito Abatement District and took its current name in 1990. West Nile virus is now a major public-health focus for it. Its office is at 8631 Bond Road in Elk Grove, and its number is (800) 429-1022.
If your question is about mosquito breeding in a public ditch or a neglected pool, the district is the right call. If it is about the yard, the attic or the kitchen, that is mosquito control or one of our other services. The district versus pest company guide sorts out which is which.

Yes. Phones are answered 24/7, including nights, weekends and holidays. Tell the call line what you are seeing and your ZIP, and you will hear the next step. For wasps at a doorway or rodents in a living space, calling is the fastest route.
Most calls are scheduled the same day when a technician is available. We cannot promise an arrival time before we know the job, the neighborhood and how many calls are open, but you will hear a realistic window before you book.
UC IPM says that in hot, dry weather Argentine ants often search homes for water, including bathroom faucets and drains. A clean kitchen does not stop them if the yard outside is dry. The technician traces the trail back toward the nest and the water source.
UC IPM says western subterranean termites swarm on calm, sunny days right after the first autumn rains, and may swarm in spring in the northern valley. Drywood termites usually swarm from late summer into November. Shed wings on a sill mean it is time for an inspection.
Yes. Service covers Sacramento and nearby communities within about 25 km, including West Sacramento in Yolo County and Elk Grove, Carmichael, Rancho Cordova and Citrus Heights in Sacramento County. Use the ZIP check or call to confirm your street.
A written service report lists what the technician found, what was applied, where it went and what to watch for next. The price is explained and approved before treatment, so the report should read like the visit you agreed to.
Note where you hear noise and at what hour, and keep pet food and open water sources picked up. UC IPM says snap traps placed off the ground are the safest, most effective option, so leave trap placement to the technician rather than scattering your own.
